Sea Perch

Our trip to Devonport 

Hi my name is Dontay. On Friday the 20th of May, 8 lucky people got chosen out of 26 kids to do to the Devonport Naval Base and I was one of  the chosen eight. As we hopped in our teacher's cars I was ready for the big drive. Once we got to the city we saw the Sky Tower straight away.

We got there in time to challenge people with our Aqua Bots/ sea perch. We did challenges. We put our robots into the navy pool. One challenge was to go from the side of the pool, move forward and under the hoop, pop up and then go back down and race back to the wall. Each person in the team had to have a turn and we kept count of our score.

Another challenge was to throw a ring inside the pool and your aquabot had to push it back to your team. I loved it and really want to go back and do it again.

After our challenges we had lunch and then we toured the Naval ship. We were split into groups and we got to look at each part of the ship. We went into the control room and spoke to the navy crew. We got to talk through the microphone to other parts of the ship. We also got to look at all the cameras which show every part of the ship. We got to go to the top of the ship, I sat in the captain chair, put the headset on and I tried to get my teacher to go and get me a burger. That did not work!

My favourite room was the gun room where they showed us all the equipment when there is a fire, we got to put the gear on and look at where they shoot the big gun! We toured the whole ship, it was cool I had a really great time, I even met a friend from Rongomai school His name was Watson =)

We even made it on TV! 3 newshub did a story on the day out and interviewed Mr PAttison. You could see me, Leon and Miss Zeier. I'm famous!
