Ramadan

When it is Ramadan, I need to wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning. I have a shower and have something to eat then when it is 6 o’clock, I need to pray.

I put my prayer mat down on the ground. My prayer mat needs to face the direction of mecca. When I pray, I stand up and then I sit down with my head on the ground. I put my head on the picture of the Haj.

In the morning we do the prayer through twice.In the afternoon I do 4 prayers twice. Then I do another 2 prayers. I pray in pashto. During Ramadan I do not eat during the day. I eat when it is dark. I am not allowed to drink water either.

Mum makes us special food at Ramadan. She makes rice, chicken and a special chilli sauce. We also get to drink juice.

Ramadan lasts for one month. After Ramadan we have Eid. At Eid you go to the mosque and then you have special food. You also get presents and new clothes. Eid is a bit like Christmas. You go around wishing everyone a “Happy Eid”.  

When I lived in Pakistan, at Eid we used to set off firecrackers. In Pakistan most people are Muslim, so everyone celebrates Eid. I really miss Pakistan and want to go back there for Eid.

Using Chromebooks

A chromebook is a small laptop that you can play with and do your work on. The reason why we got chromebooks is because our class is the e-learning class. We have made e-Portfolios than you can find our blog that shows what we are learning to do plus our news.When we are on a chromebook we had to sign in and use our password. We also have to take a picture so if we go of the chromebook you will see your picture and you can click it and add your password.

In Room 15 we have a cow that we put our chromebooks inside and  it  chargers  our chromebook for the next day if we use it.  You can lock them up safe so no one can steal it. But I forgot if someone steals our chromebooks won’t work out of school because it doesn’t have the code of dawson. In our class we also have a 3rd printer that make lot of different things that is made out of plastic.

Eye on Nature Fashion Show

Last night, Timothy, Mele, Salarina and I went to the Botanical Gardens for the Eye on Nature fashion show. There were a lot of costumes! I went as a sparkly mermaid with scales on my tail

, Timothy went as Tangaroa the God of the sea, Salariana went as a beautiful jelly fish and Mele went as a plastic island, it had lots of rubbish on it. 

When we got there, we all got numbers. As we were getting dressed we saw amazing costumes and we all got very nervous. After a while, Salarina was first to go down the isle first out of us, my nan said that she was the coolest jelly fish out of all of them. 

After that, Timothy the fierce Tangaroa was going down the isle and when his parents saw him they were laughing as hard as they could. It took for ever for me and Mele to go on but then I got to finally go on and my heart was beating like a thunder storm. I felt like a princess when I went down the isle, Mele was up and she was nervous as well, but we all pulled it off and we were all stunning!!

Rongomai Stream Visit - Water Testing

Rongomai Stream Visit

Today Room 15 walked down to the Rongomai Stream to test the water.

Firstly we had Kate from Waicare who was showing Room 15 two posters, one said New Zealand’s Freshwater Fish and the other Freshwater  invertebrates.

As we were near the stream Kate asked Dontay if he could use the  thermometer to check the air temperature and it was 21.6 degrees.

Afterwards Kate Asked Altezza to check the water temperature and it was 18.8 degrees.

The next person Kate called was Israr, he was testing out Nitrite and Nitrate, both of them were 0% so that means the water is just right for the fish.

Then there was Reana who tested the dissolved oxygen and it was right level for the fish to breathe in.

It was my turn next, I had to check the phosphorous. First I had to get the exact amount of stream water in two containers. Once both of the containers were filled up me and Kate put one of the lids on one of the containers and the other one we put chemicals in. After that was finished we waited for 5 minutes and the one with the chemicals changed colour. As it changed colour I had to solve which colour matched the one with chemicals and it was 0.05.

At the end me and Fusi had to pour water into a tube. Before we screwed the lid on we put in a magnet. Me and Fusi got had to show everyone what to do, they had to look in one end and tell us when the magnet disappears, We measured the distance in centimeters and shows us the water clarity.

We thanked Kate for showing us some of the equipment they use for checking the stream. After that we came back to school. We will visit the stream again early next term.

The Courier

This morning the newspaper people came to talk to me about my cancer. They asked me lots of questions like how did my mum feel when she found out I had cancer and who was my bone marrow donor. Then they asked my sister how did it feel when she was my donor and what did it feel like when all the needles went in when it was time for my bone marrow transplant. They also took a photo of me and my sister and then they told us that my story will be on the newspaper next week.

Cricket Tournamnet

On Wednesday our sports teams went off to represent Dawson School at their cricket tournament with Miss Burton.

When the taxis arrived the boys went in that taxi, some of us didn’t care about girls first, so we hopped in and straight away and opened the windows.

Once we got there we hopped out of the taxi with all our packed bags. As we walked down the path we saw two people that used to come to our school, Denarius and Viliami.

There were heaps of schools there,

then we had to put up our sun shelter,

it was very easy. Then we had to verse 4 schools they were all very hard. Everyone that was watching was proud of us. When they tallied the points after our games the boys and girls both came 10th.

Wednesday the 9th of March, Miss Burton and Miss Sabrina took two teams to the cricket tournament, there was a girls team and a boys team.

When we got to the the cricket tournament in Papatoetoe, we set up the tent and played a few games of bat and ball.

But then it was 10.00am that’s when us  Dawson’s girls had our first cricket match against Yendarra school. Then, Bailey (the team captain)had to do rock papers scissors with Yendarra, lucky because we won and we were fielding first. I had to bowl first I was so nervous but after a while I felt really better we had 6 wides.

Once we all finished bowling,then we had to bat it was fun but sadly it was over and we lost by 4 points

As the time went past we lost all the games but it was really funny and we had a great time!
